In accordance with emergency bulletin for worsening weather issued by EMY as of today, September 23, are expected heavy rains and storms which will be accompanied in places by hail and very strong winds.

The g.c. of Civil Protection, addresses recommendations to citizens to be particularly careful, ensuring that measures are taken self protection from risks arising from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.

In particular, it recommends to citizens in areas where heavy rainfall, storms or gale-force winds are expected to occur:

• Secure objects which, if carried away by severe weather conditions, may cause damage or injury.

• To make sure that the gutters and downspouts of the houses are not blocked and are working properly.

• Avoid crossing torrents and streams, on foot or by vehicle, during storms and rainfall, but also for several hours after the end of their event

• Avoid outdoor work and activities in marine and coastal areas during severe weather events (risk of lightning strikes).

• Take shelter immediately during a hailstorm. Take shelter in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until they are sure the storm has passed. Hail can be very dangerous for animals too.

• Avoid passing under large trees, under posted signs and in general areas where light objects (eg pots, broken glass etc.) can become detached and fall to the ground (eg under balconies ).

• To faithfully follow the instructions of the local authorities, such as Traffic, etc.

In addition, the operational plan is being implemented to deal with risks from the occurrence of floods, as well as their accompanying phenomena, while the Fire Services of the areas where the phenomena are expected to occur, have been placed in a state of increased readiness and further escalation if required, in order to to deal with any problems immediately.

The Directorate General of Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to face directly the effects of the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.

It is noted that according to the Emergency Deterioration of Weather Bulletin issued today by the National Meteorological Service (NMS), heavy rains and storms that will be accompanied in places by hail and very strong winds are predicted in Crete today Friday 23-9-2022 from noon until the evening.

Bad weather warning issued on Friday the National Meteorological Service (EMY), which warns of heavy rains and storms which will be accompanied in places by hail and very strong winds in Crete today 23-9-2022 from noon to evening.

Rains and possibly sporadic storms will occur mainly in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the North-East Aegean, Western Mainland, Peloponnese and Crete. THE temperature it will range in Western Macedonia from 1 to 19 degrees, in the rest of Northern Greece from 3 to 21, in Epirus from 9 to 26 degrees, in Thessaly from 7 to 25, in the rest of the mainland from 10 to 23-24 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 12 to 25 and in the Aegean islands and Crete from 12 to 23-25 ​​degrees Celsius.

The winds they will blow in the Aegean from various directions with intensities of 3-4 Beaufort and in the rest of the Aegean from northern directions with intensities of 5-6 Beaufort. Northwesterly winds will blow in the Ionian with 4-5 Beaufort intensities.

Winds: From north directions 3 to 5 and in the northern Ionian locally 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: Up to 25 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 4 to 5 degrees lower.

THESSALIA, EASTERN CONTINENTA, EASTERN PELOPONNISUS
Weather: Clouds temporarily increasing with local showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. The phenomena will gradually be limited to the south.
Winds: Northerly 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: Up to 22 degrees Celsius.

CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: A few clouds in places increased with local rains. The phenomena from late afternoon will be limited to Crete.

EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE
