Many children among the immigrants who arrived in Kalamata


Early on Thursday afternoon, the 85 migrants who were spotted on an unmanned vessel 65 miles SW of Pylos arrived at the port of Kalamata from a nearby ship where they were picked up.

According to the first data, it is about 30 children, 30 women and 25 men where they will remain in the warehouses of the Port of Kalamata and after they have been identified, the prescribed procedure will be followed.

The announcement of the Coast Guard

A broad search and rescue operation for foreigners is underway in the sea area about 65 nautical meters south-west of Pylos under the coordination of the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center L.S. – EL.AKT. (E.K.S.E.D.).

In particular, the E.K.S.E.D. was informed about the existence of a wooden boat (a.l.s.) in a difficult position with a sufficient number of foreigners on board. The vessel in question was spotted by the F/C ship “NORDIC ANNA” flagged by Portugal, which picked up eighty two (82) people, while three (03) people were picked up by the D/C ship “KOOL BALTIC” flagged by Liberia.

Above ships sailed to the Kalamata anchorage, from where the foreigners in question are transferred to private vehicles and transported safely to the relevant port.

One (01) floating ship and one (01) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are attempting to locate any missing persons in the said maritime area. The prevailing weather conditions in the area are ABA winds 4 – 5 BF.
