The filming of the new long-awaited series of ERT “A night in August”, based on the novel of the same title by the award-winning author Victoria Hislop, continues at an intense pace, with the protagonists Giorgos Karamichos, Maria Kavogianni, Yiannis Stankoglou, Ioulika Skafidas and many other well-known, acclaimed actors and contributors.
The new 14-episode drama series, directed by Zois Sgourou and written by Panagiotis Christopoulos, which will premiere on ERT1, on Sunday, October 2, at 10:00 p.m., tells us the tragic aftermath of a femicide, the countless lives that were scarred as a result, the prisons of every kind that man builds around him, but also the need for redemption, hope, love, which is inevitably always born from the ruins.
The action from Crete and the area of Elounda, is transferred to various parts of Piraeus and Athens, among them the port, Troumba, Metaxourgeio, Salamina, which uniquely convey the atmosphere of the 60s, where we the story conveys.
The thread of the narrative unfolds starting with the murder of Anna Petrakis (Eugenia Dimitropoulou), by her husband Andreas Vandoulakis (Yiannis Stankoglou), one night in August, six years ago, when the latter learns that she had a lover with his cousin, Manolis Vandoulaki (Giorgos Karamichos).
A key role in the series is played by Anna’s sister, Maria Petraki (Ioulika Skafidas), who tries to continue her life, keeping well-hidden secrets that should not be revealed…
Manolis left Crete determined never to return. He lives in Piraeus. Those around him, marginal types of the port, see in his face a charming, pleasant and charismatic man, with an unknown past, prone to abuse and gambling.
Andreas is imprisoned in Crete, sentenced to life imprisonment. No one has visited him in six years – except for the regrets of what he did, which do not leave him a moment in peace.
And while the fate of one is already prescribed by the court, the fate of the other may have one last hope to change. Manolis, shortly before his self-destruction, knows love again. Not the selfish, destructive love he had for Anna. But, a generous and bright love, which he feels for the first time in his life: the love for the people around him, who until now were strangers to him. For his somewhat indiscreet landlady, Agathi (Maria Kavogianni), for the tortured people who live in the same boarding house with him, for his colleagues – port workers, for the people on the fringes… For a little girl in the next window. A girl who looks like Anna’s daughter, Sofia (Maria Passa), whom Manolis has always wondered if she is his own child.
Meanwhile, Maria begins for inexplicable reasons to visit her sister’s murderer in prison, while Antonis (Hectoras Liatsos), a man who has always been in love with Anna and had a secret involvement in her death, appears. At the same time, we follow the stories of the doctor Nikos Kyritsis (Alexandros Logothetis) and the lawyer and former president of Spinalonga, Nikos Papadimitriou (Tasos Nousias).
They play: Giorgos Karamichos (Manolis), Maria Kavogianni (Agathe), Yannis Stankoglou (Andreas Vandoulakis), Gioulika Skafidas (Maria Petrakis), Alexandros Logothetis (Nikos Kyritsis), Tasos Nousias (Nikos Papadimitriou), Maria Passa (Sofia), George Symeonidis (Chronis ), Costas Andalopoulos (Stavros), Elena Topalidou (Fani), Aeneias Tsamatis (Makis), Eleanna Finokaliotis (Foteini), Hectors Liatsos (Antonis), Michalis Aerakis (Alexandros Vandoulakis), Eugenia Dimitropoulou (Anna Petrakis), Dimitris Alexandris (Dretakis , director of prisons), Fotini Papachristopoulou (Olga Vandoulakis), Vangelis Liodakis (Saridakis, prison guard), Nikolas Chalkiadakis (Vangelis, prison guard), Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos (Markos), AdelaidaKatside (Katerina), Denia Psyllia (Renio), Anna Maria Marinaki (Christina) , Markos Papadokonstantakis (Anastassis), Christos Kragiopoulos (Filippos).
