CORFU. An incredible incident of citizen analgesia developed on Monday in Campiello, in the old town. For the umpteenth time, the ambulance that had rushed to the aid of an elderly person was unable to reach the scene due to the illegally parked vehicles.
Putting human life first, he parked in front of Kokkini’s ride so he could help the patient, but when the rescuers returned, they were confronted by angry drivers who could not pass!
The events are described in a statement by the EKAB Employees’ Union, asking the Municipality, the Technical Services and the Traffic Police to finally take measures for illegal parking that prevents the passage of emergency vehicles.
TO: MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL CORFU
TECHNICAL SERVICES OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL CORFU
CORFU TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT
Yesterday 19/09/22 and around 14:00 the EKAV call center received a call about an elderly woman who needed immediate hospital care in the area of Kampielos and on Sofokleus Dousmani Street in the promenade of Kokkini.
A station immediately went to the spot and once again there was an impossibility of approach and parking due to parked vehicles as well as a truck from a crew of workers.
The crew necessarily and prioritizing the human life that was in danger parked in front of Kokkini’s volto and rushed to help and transfer the woman to the ambulance.
On the return of the crew with the patient the crew were heckled by bystanders waiting to pass and taunted by workers with a truck parked at the scene telling them to buy their mother and father sheep because they blocked the passage.
We ask for your own actions to ensure the smooth passage and approach of emergency vehicles on the road and a matter we have repeatedly highlighted.
We also condemn the misogyny of the crew and the indecent behavior of those present.
THE PRESIDENT CHRISTOS CYPRIOTIS
SECRETARY GERASIMOS RODITIS
