“Preparation” of the funeral of King Charles

Buckingham Palace has launched Operation Menai Bridge, which, according to royal protocol, is the code name for his funeral preparations. King Charles the Thirdaccording to British media.

The code name ‘Menai Bridge’ refers to a bridge connecting the island of Anglesey in Wales to the mainland, as Charles was Prince of Wales for most of his life.

Although rumors are rife in Britain that the health condition of King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer last February, is considered perfectly normal for Buckingham Palace to plan the royal funeral ceremony well in advance and down to the smallest detail : The document of hundreds of pages was created in September 2022, immediately after the funeral of Elizabeth II. Elizabeth’s funeral was codenamed “London Bridge” and preparations were ready to begin decades before her death. “Plans for funeral preparations have been renewed and are being kept up to date. It’s not more than you’d expect given that the king has been diagnosed with cancer. But at the moment they are very involved in this project,” a former Buckingham employee who maintains contacts with people who work at the palace told The Daily Beast.

King Charles has not officially appeared in public since last February, but has since tried to find a difficult balance between the need to take care of himself, rest and not be exposed to possible infections. Last month, however, Charles wanted to attend the Easter service at Windsor Castle and then, according to tradition, shook hands and exchanged a few words with the many people who had gathered outside the church. The king’s associates say, however, that he is “responding well to the treatment he is undergoing”.

Charles III’s next official appointment is on June 15 for the ‘Trooping the Color’ ceremony, the king’s official birthday celebrations. His absence would spark a flurry of rumours. If Charles III is present, however, his appearance and every expression and gesture will be scrutinized, “to try to understand the state of his health.”
