After the success of the Netflix series “Baby Reindeer‘, a police investigation has been launched after viewers wrongly accused director Sean Foley of being his abuser Richard Gaddcausing online threats to be launched against him.
The series focuses not only on the actor’s stalker, but also on his abuser, who after promising him a brilliant career, ended up sexually abusing him.
The public, trying to find out who the actor’s abuser really was, since this is a true story, blamed the wrong person. Sean Foley told the Mirror that he had received threatening messages on social media from fans of the show. Thus, he turned to the police, in order to safeguard his safety and immediately, a police investigation was launched to find those who threatened him.
A British police spokesman said: “We are investigating after a man reported receiving threatening messages on social media. Investigations are at an early stage and we are in the process of gathering information from the victim.”
The actor himself, Richard Gadd, called the audience to stop “carving” his life and not to look for what really happened in relation to what is presented in the series.
For its part, Netflix, which took over the production, has not clarified whether enough changes have been made in the script in relation to reality, in order to protect the people behind the heroes.
In a recent message published on Instagram by the star of the series, Richard Gatt clarified in turn that the director is not the one who abused him. “People I love, have worked with and admire, including Sean Foley, are being unfairly implicated in speculation. Don’t guess which of my real life people these are all. That may not be the point of our series.” writes. In turn, the director retweeted the message, also adding: “The police have been informed and are investigating all defamatory, abusive and threatening posts against me.”
