The prince turned 6 on April 23 and the Welsh royal couple shared a new portrait of their youngest son on his birthday.

He has traditionally posted birthday portraits on the eve of the holiday in previous years for his three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

It is understood that the delay is related to the desire for privacy, since the Princess of Wales shared on March 22 that he is undergoing treatment for cancer and explained that at this stage, their family needs propriety.

Prince Louis’ birthday photo was the first official picture released by the family since the controversy surrounding a photo of Princess Kate with her three childrenwhich was released for Mother’s Day in the UK last month.

After the photo, which was the first official portrait of the Princess of Wales while recovering from abdominal surgery in January, was pulled by several news outlets amid suspicions of manipulation and tampering, the Kate Middleton said in a statement: “Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing.
