THE Stefanos Korkolis found “Teta a Tet” with Tasos Tryfonos, together with Sofia Manousakis on the afternoon of Sunday 21/4. Speaking to Alpha Cyprus, among other things, he revealed details of his health, as he battles cancer.
As the composer mentioned, although 10 years have passed, he still needs to undergo treatments: “I did not overcome cancer, I still have it and I am still fighting it. I do treatments from time to time and the longer you are symptom free the better.
I’m almost ten years old now. You always have the feeling that it won’t happen to you, and I also belong to the category of many who ignore a symptom, brush it off and don’t go to the doctor. I don’t go to the doctor for a symptom, at least I don’t, because I’m afraid he won’t tell me I have something.
It’s that strange feeling that you have when you can go to the doctor, he can find something for you at the beginning, it will be over and you will be saved from a lot of suffering.
In my own case, when I found out, I found out very badly. My doctor will not embellish anything for you, he will tell you exactly the things and he does well. I have said before that I lost the ground under my feet, your whole life changes, the universe changes. After I had the first operation, which was very painful, and my first chemotherapy treatments, I started to see things very differently.
I threw away everything that was toxic around me.. The cigarette, which was also the cause of my illness. 100% People, situations, work. Anything I felt was causing me anxiety and stress,” said Stefanos Korkolis.
After 5 years which he calls the “pop period”, he decided that this was not what he wanted to do with his life. There were also difficulties, but he overcame them: “I made the decision myself and said I don’t want this anymore. I found myself in orchestral music. I wasn’t interested in the financial part.
I was never under the money issue. I have had wild times in Paris when I have run out of money, which I had to save for my rent. I have been fasting in Paris. No big deal. I had not gone through anything tragic to say the least. It is a shame to say that I have been through difficulties”, admitted Stefanos Korkolis.
