Prince Philip has been in limbo for about a year and a half, since he had to wait until his wife Queen Elizabeth died, in order to be buried in his last residence.
According to the ritual his body was laid in wait in the Royal Vaulta dark cave that is under St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
King George is buried in this area, as is the Queen Mother, while the ashes of Princess Margaret, who was cremated, are also located there.
The Royal Vault, where Prince Philip’s body was temporarily placed, is the resting place of many royal descendants, 24 in total.
So now Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip they will be buried side by side in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, also located in St George’s Chapel.
According to royal family protocol, Prince Philip was second in line to the Queen, just as he was when she was alive. Since Elizabeth became Queen, Prince Philip has been obliged to walk two steps behind her.
Queen Elizabeth married Philipthen a naval officer, at Westminster Abbey in 1947.
