On her initiative Deputy Minister of Transport Christina Alexopoulos and the Member of Parliament of the NDGiorgos Stamatis, a meeting was held today with Mr President of the Hellenic Red Cross, Antonis Avgerinos and the CEO of STASY, Thanasis Kottaras.

According to a relevant announcement during the meeting, they agreed to signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation, which concerns training for the effective response to emergencies on METRO lines.

Specifically, the purpose of the Memorandum is the certified training of METRO employees by specialized trainers of the Red Cross, in order to ensure the immediate response to emergency incidents for the safe and unhindered movement of approximately 700 thousand daily passengers.

In addition, it was agreed to create a Red Cross First Aid Center in a special area in position of METRO Syntagmawhere free education can also be provided to citizens.

THE Deputy Minister Christina Alexopoulou he emphasized the value of cooperation between all involved bodies, underlining that the first concern is social responsibility and continuous improvement and adaptation to the needs of the community. As he mentioned, the Memorandum of Cooperation that will be signed is expected to lead to substantial improvements in transportation services and to strengthen the public’s sense of security and confidence in the METRO system and transportation.

Mr. Stamatis emphasized that the value of first aid knowledge for each of us constitutes our highest moral and humanitarian duty. Such initiatives of the Deputy Minister of Transport contribute practically and substantially, so that transport is safer and acquires a more social and human-centered character. Knowing how to provide first aid should be an integral part of our training, because this way we can effectively help a fellow human being who is in immediate danger. The contribution of the Greek Red Cross is permanent, valuable and necessary.
