The extension for another year of the restrictive measures imposed by the European Union for unauthorized drilling by Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean in 2019, the Council decided.

According to a related announcement, the Council of Ministers approved the renewal of restrictive measures until November 30, 2024.

The restrictive measures that have been imposed concern the freezing of assets for the persons and entities included in the list as well as a ban on EU citizens and companies from allocating capital or financial resources to said persons and entities.

Also, for the legal entities are subject to a travel ban to/through the European Union.

Currently, two people are on the list of restrictive measures. They are Mehmet Feruh Akalın, vice-chairman of the board of directors of the Turkish Petroleum Company (TRAO), and Ali Joskun Namoglou, deputy director of the Research Department of the Turkish Petroleum Company (TRAO).

Based on the decision, the EU retains the ability to impose targeted restrictive measures to persons or entities responsible for or involved in unauthorized hydrocarbon drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.
