The Union of Vascular Surgeons of Greece (EEAE) expresses its “deep sadness and disappointment over the unacceptable verbal attack suffered by one of its members, from the family environment of Dimitris Kallianou” in a statement.

The vascular surgeons, after conveying their sincere and warm condolences to the family of the deceased, note, among other things, that “the inalienable right to express anguish and mental pain for the poor course of health and the loss of a person’s life by his relatives does not justify the indecent, offensive , threatening and unethical behavior towards those who fight to the best of their ability to deliver the best outcome for their patients.”

Which “authorities will go to jail”

They underline that in our country “the investigation of any medical negligence is exclusively the work of the independent judiciary and any public name-calling against colleagues by any other organization or famous person or public official falls self-evidently into the spectrum of defamation” and they conclude that “the decision on which “authorities will go to prison” is not taken by politicians, parliamentarians or those present in the television windows, but is the exclusive prerogative of the independent Greek Justice”.

Earlier, the professor of vascular surgery who participated in the medical team that managed the case of Yannis Kallianos’ father, through lawyers, states that “the complexity of the deceased’s health problems required the collaboration of a cardiologist, pulmonologist, nephrologist, infectious disease specialist and intensivist” and “the scientific point of view of all the above was that any intubation of the patient, without an absolute indication, would constitute an incorrect medical procedure, as his extubation would be practically impossible”.

In the same statement, it is also added that “admission to M.E.Th. non-intubated patient, who did not meet the medical conditions and at the same time was a relative of a Member of Parliament, would constitute impermissible discriminatory treatment”.

Declaration of support from the Administration of the School of Medicine of EKPA

Its support to the doctors of the “Attikon” hospital was provided by the Administration of the School of Medicine of the Greek Academy of Sciences.

In a statement co-signed by the president of the School of Medicine, Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos and the vice-president, Konstantinos Tsioufis, it is stated that “the professors of all Clinics and Laboratories, including the Vascular Surgery Clinic and the Second Intensive Care Clinic, are internationally renowned and provide the the same high level of care to all patients of the Hospital without exception”.

“He had to go to the ICU”

“My father should not have had this end”, emphasized (ANT1) earlier Yannis Kallianos. “He had to enter the ICU before they intubated him”, he said, estimating that “this period of four days would be enough to save him”.

The mother of Yiannis Kallianos and wife of the late Dimitris broke out (ALPHA) about the death of her husband, describing what she lived next to him in the hospital, what the doctors told her and the conditions of his hospitalization.
