Elena Paparizou was born in Sweden to Greek immigrant parents. When she was 7 years old, she started learning piano, ballet and traditional dances. Her first musical experiences were with Greek music, at her Greek school. At the age of 13, he began to prepare for singing. She created her first band called “Soul Funkomatic” with three other Latin American kids. The band only played hip hop and raised money for recording songs.
Two years later, when Elena was 16, the band broke up and Paparizou received several offers, but her mother claimed she was too young to leave home.
At the age of 17 he formed the band Antique together with Nikos Panagiotidis. The band’s first single titled ‘Opa Opa’ went platinum and became a big hit across Scandinavia. In the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest, Antique won third place with the song “I Would Die for You”.
Although the band achieved great success, Antique disbanded in 2003 and decided to take a break without ruling out the possibility of reuniting in the future.
In 2005 he represented Greece again at Eurovision and managed to win with the song “My Number One”, the country’s first and only victory to date in the contest.
