Emma Stone has revealed that she now wants to be called Emily instead of Emma.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Emma Stone opened up about how she got a pseudonym to start her film career and how she still prefers to use her real name when possible.
In this particular interview, the actress and her The Curse co-star Nathan Fielder discussed it in detail. “I’d like to say something,” Fielder said at the start of the interview. “Her name is Emily, but professionally she goes by the name Emma. So when there are people who don’t know her, I end up saying Emma. But from now on I’ll just say Emily.”
Stone said she still uses Emily with people she knows personally. “When I meet them, the people I work with call me Emily,” she explained. When The Hollywood Reporter asked the actress if she would correct a fan if he called her Emily, Stone replied, “No. That would be really nice. I’d like to be Emily.”
The actress previously told Jimmy Fallon that she wanted to be called Emma when she was growing up because she was a big fan of Baby Spice, aka Emma Bunton, of the Spice Girls.
Also, during the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress mentioned that she introduced herself to the audience as Emma, as there was already an actress named Emily Stone. “It was just caught. But two years ago it kind of freaked me out and I was like ‘I can’t do this anymore. Just call me Emily. For example, Nathan calls me Em, which is easier.”
