Prince Philip warned Elizabeth about Meghan Markle – The nickname he gave her

And while the late Queen Elizabeth initially had high hopes for Meghan Markle when she started dating Prince Harry, her husband Prince Philip was less sure and had shared his concerns with her.

Prince Philip had concerns about Meghan Markle when she first appeared on the scene and, according to a royal expert, warned Queen Elizabeth.

While Queen Elizabeth initially had high hopes for Prince Harry’s wife-to-be, Prince Philip is said to have been wary of the former “Suits” star and saw parallels with Wallis Simpson, another American who joined the British royal family.

Ingrid Seward writes in her book “My Mother and I” that soon the country seemed to treat Meghan Markle with equally genuine joy. “One of the few who was reluctant to succumb to her charms was Prince Philip. While Queen Elizabeth continued to defend Prince Harry’s new love, he warned his wife to be careful.”

“Queen Elizabeth was well aware of what Prince Philip meant when he drew parallels between Meghan Markle and Wallis. Indeed, much later she would observe in her own way that perhaps Prince Harry was very much in love with the American actress.”

The nickname for Meghan Markle

The royal commentator points out that Prince Philip had a nickname for Meghan based on her similarities to Wallis, but never shared it directly with her or uttered it in her presence.

“I think Prince Philip was very clever with people and he didn’t always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them. I think she just couldn’t get away from the fact of the similarities between Meghan and Harry to Edward and Simpson,” Seward remarked during her interview.

“There are so many similarities and that’s why he called her the Duchess of Windsor. He used to call her, not in front of her, dow – DoW (short for Duchess of Windsor).

It is recalled that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left as working members of the royal family in January 2020 and left the United Kingdom to live in California, where they live with their two children.

While Prince Harry will visit the UK next month for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, it is believed Meghan Markle will remain in the United States amid security concerns and does not want to cause drama with her visit.

Meghan Markle has made very few trips to the UK since the couple stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. While she attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022, she did not return for King Charles’ coronation last year where she attended alone prince harry.

“Meghan Markle will never set foot in the UK again,” The Sun’s former royal correspondent Charles Rae pointed out. “I don’t think he wants to have anything to do with this country,” he said.

“I don’t think he understood the difference in the royal family. You have the monarch, you have the Prince of Wales and then you have everyone else. He wanted to be the star and it wasn’t as simple as he thought. So she packed up her toys and decided to go to America.”
