“When ND, PASOK, Coalition voted for Maastricht for the liberalization of the markets, they told us that with the liberalization of the Electricity Market we will have cheap and sufficient electricity and many well-paid new jobs. But there came very expensive electricity bills, thousands of lost permanent jobs with rights, energy poverty for the people, huge profits for the business groups active in Energy”, report the Committees of the struggle of residents and popular bodies of Mainalosagainst RES licensing for business activity, demanding no RES licensing in the area, reject applications for the installation of wind farms, photovoltaic industrial complexes and storage batteries, but also remove wind turbines that are close to villages.
Noting that despite what ND – SYRIZA – PASOK said that with the green transition the climate crisis will be dealt with, that with delignitization and the Just Transition Fund will come investments, sustainable development, etc., the committees emphasize:
“But what we live in is millions of cubic meters (m3) excavations, hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of iron and concrete on the leveled mountain tops, millions of photovoltaic panels even on fertile lands in highly productive land, thousands of huge lithium batteries for energy storage.
At the moment with their own data there are 12 GW RES projects in operation, others 15 GW with terms of connection and more 40 GW waiting to receive connection terms. So we’re talking about 27 GW projects certainly and others 40 GW to follow, when the demand during lunch hours does not exceed 9 GW.
We have i.e. oversupply of Energy production from RES and in order to keep electricity prices high, they give financial incentives to energy storage projects in “giga batteries” and discuss cuts in the disposal of the produced Energy by 45%”.
They are “putting landfills back” into Energy
They explain how “just as in the 1980s they preferred to bury agricultural products and fruits and let thousands of children in poor countries die of hunger, so now they plan to limit the supply of electricity to the grid produced by RES and let there be energy poverty, in order to maintain electricity prices and the profitability of business groups at high levels” and conclude:
“Then they tell you that in the free market prices are determined by supply and demand. But this is where they are determined by the Energy exchange established under SYRIZA in 2017.
We say that no positive opinion and licensing of new RES projects is justified since there is a surplus of huge amounts of Energy produced by RES and the huge batteries – containets of lithium skyrocket the risk of an accident.
It turns out that the installation of thousands of wind turbines, millions of photovoltaic panels and thousands of huge lithium batteries in the mountains of Parnon, Mainalos and the other mountains of the Peloponnese is to ensure huge profitability for the business groups active in RES”.
The Committees additionally require:
“Government to roll back anti-environmental laws that give land and water to business groups to install wind solar and battery storage.
Cheap electricity for the people with a drastic reduction in the price of electricity, with the abolition of the “green fee” and other “reciprocal fees”, which burden the bills.
Reduction in the price of agricultural electricity and oil for the farmer, the rancher, the beekeeper to survive.
Kpower outages in ordinary households – small businesses – farmers, to vulnerable social groups”.
