It is expected to open within the next few days Taxisnet for submission tax returns natural persons, the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis said yesterday, referring to an announcement by AADE for the start of the time for submission of declarations by businesses. As the minister said, the deadline for submitting the declarations extends this year until July 31 (instead of June 30). At the same time, he announced changes from 2025 to the fines for those who delay the payment of the annual traffic fees. Based on the minister’s announcements, taxpayers have until the end of July to submit their tax return, with the first installment being paid on the same day (Wednesday, July 31). The tax can be paid in eight installments (latest in February 2025), while those who pay in one go will get a 3% discount. It is noted that this year approximately one million taxpayers with salaries and pensions will see their declarations pre-filled. If no changes are made, the statement will be considered finalized on July 31.

Traffic fees

As far as road tax is concerned, changes to fines are planned from 2025, as the Ministry of National Economy intends to introduce a graduated system of fines depending on the time of late payment of the fees. The sooner the fees are paid after the deadline, the lower the road tax fine. Today a fine equal to the road tax is imposed from the 1st day of delay and from next year it will be imposed progressively.

At the same time, a special working group has undertaken the task of reforming and updating the framework of the vehicle traffic fees and the processing and study of the new technological economic, social and environmental developments, as well as the terms, conditions and criteria for shaping the cost of the fees. In fact, the working group will work out alternative costing scenarios and submit proposals for reforming traffic fees. The first draft is expected to be presented in September, and until then the working group will also study the road tax systems in place in other countries.
