Mobile phones and drugs were found during the search by the police in the Avlona prisons, while five people were arrested, among them a correctional officer and two prisoners in the Special Youth Detention Center of Avlona, as well as two private individuals.
The five people involved in the case of drugs and cellphones in Avlona prisons were arrested on Sunday, after a coordinated police operation, while the case file that was formed includes one more person, whose details have been identified.
A case file was filed against them – on a case-by-case basis – for breach of duty, bribery of an employee, forgery and a distinguished case of drug trafficking, as well as for violating the laws on sports and weapons and the laws on antenna licenses and the introduction and distribution of mobile phones in shops reservation.
As it became known from the Police, there was a previous complaint about a person importing drugs into a detention center, following “orders” from prisoners, for a monetary reward.
They had built an entire drug trafficking network
According to ELAS, in the context of the investigation, the existence of a drug importation and trafficking networkmobile telephone devices, as well as telephone connection packages, with the ultimate aim of selling them to prisoners, for a monetary fee.
The 46-year-old prisoner took advantage of his position in the prison, while at the same time maintaining a pivotal role in decision-making, delegating the search or receipt of each order to the network he had developed.
In fact, he had a mobile phone with the knowledge of the arrested prison officer, through which he knew the services (days, persons, places) in the prison and in particular at the gate which is also the visitor control point. He also had immediate information about possible searches in the prison, in whose premises he moved freely, even at times when the other prisoners were in confinement.
A 43-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were arrested
The main supporters of the said network were the two individuals (a 43-year-old and a 24-year-old) arrested, as the first held the role of the main importer through visits to the Penitentiary Store and the second was in charge of finding and supplying the narcotics.
From their activity, which was uninterrupted, they obtained large profits since they traded their “merchandise” at prices many times higher than those outside the prison (indicatively, the selling price of the mobile phones ranged from 500 to 600 euros). The payment was made through money transfer companies or through accounts linked to prepaid cards in the details of the 46-year-old or his relatives.

The arrests took place while the 43-year-old woman tried to enter the Special Youth Detention Center in Avlona, in order to deliver – according to the visit card – to the 46-year-old, 46 narcotic pills, which she had hidden in her bra.
From the searches that followed in places of detention and in houses, as well as from the possession of the arrested, among others, the following were found and confiscated:
• 17.7 grams of cannabis,
• number of mobile phones,
• 2 smartwatches,
• 4 fake service identity cards of a prison official,
• a number of anabolic preparations,
• 8 wireless,
• 3 pepper sprays,
• 15,895 euros,
• evidence of money transfers totaling 28,466 euros and
• 1 vehicle.
Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
