A correctional officer and a prisoner were dealing drugs inside the youth prisons of Avlonas

A prisoner who held the position of head cook in Neo Avlonas detention prisons and a correctional officer were arrested for drug and cell phone trafficking inside the prison. The 46-year-old, knowing well the prison’s premises, as well as the misdemeanor checks that were carried out, had developed an entire network and, according to the authorities, trafficked drugs and mobile phones. It is characteristic that a few months ago the information reached the Internal Affairs that a prison officer was involved in the trafficking of illegal substances, instead of 1,500 euros at a time. But mobile phones were also paid for in “gold”, as their price reached from 500 to 600 euros each.

The head chef in order to “cook” his… “jobs” had a mobile phone in his possession, of which the correctional officer even knew of the existence without having done the slightest thing to stop the illegal action of the prisoner, who “had immediate information about potential searches at the Store, in whose premises he moved freely, even at times when the other prisoners were in confinement”, as characteristically stated in the police announcement. Key members of this particular ring were a 43-year-old woman, who introduced drugs during prison visits, and a 24-year-old man, who was in charge of finding and supplying the drugs.

The arrests by the Internal Affairs took place at the moment when the 43-year-old tried to enter the Detention Shop, in order to deliver – according to the visit – to the 46-year-old, 46 drug pills, which she had carefully hidden in her bra. “The members of the ring took advantage of the fact that there was a lack of technological means of detecting drugs or telephone devices, as well as female staff, so that physical searches of female visitors were possible,” describes a police officer who dealt with the case. From the searches that followed in places of detention and in houses, as well as from the possession of the arrested, among others, the following were found and confiscated:

• -17.7- grams of cannabis,
• cell phone crowd,
• -2- smartwatches,
• -4- forged service identity cards of a prison official,
• multitude of anabolic preparations,
• -8- wireless,
• -3- pepper spray,
• -895- euros,
• evidence of money transfer in the total amount of -28,466- euros and
• -1- vehicle.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
