The top SUV in Opel’s range is based on the new platform for pure electric vehicles, STLA Medium, and offers top efficiency.

In the new Grandland we can see many of the design features first seen in the Opel Experimental prototype and this is the first time it happens in a production SUV model. These features include the 3D Vizor with illuminated brand logo, placed proudly in the center of the grille, as well as permanently illuminated “OPEL” lettering at the rear.

Other interesting features are the Intelli-Lux Pixel HD lighting system with more than 50,000 autonomous elements, the new STLA Medium platform for all-electric vehicles and the new, flat battery installation, which allows the installation of a 98 kWh battery, which gives the Grandland Electric up to 700 kilometers of autonomy.

It is the first Opel model to benefit from the Stellantis Group STLA Medium platform for electric vehicles. Thanks to the new architecture, the new flat placement of the battery with a capacity of up to 98 kWh, the new-generation electric motor and a host of energy-saving features, the new Grandland Electric will be able to offer top efficiency data.

In addition, it promises that short stops will be required to recharge it. At a public fast charging station, it only takes about 26 minutes to recharge the battery to 80% of its capacity. The adoption of the new platform offered the designers a new freedom, which is why the new Grandland impresses at first glance. With 173 mm more length, 19 mm more height and 64 mm more width than its predecessor, the new model exudes confidence.

Alloy wheels, up to 20 inches, enhance the Grandland’s bold appearance and place it at the top of Opel’s SUV range. Also impressive is the 3D Vizor, which is the new expression of Opel’s characteristic grille. The renewed 3D Vizor is combined with the illuminated Opel Blitz logo, which is made even more visible thanks to Edge Light Technology.

The new Grandland adopts the principles of the “Opel Compass” design introduced by the Experimental concept, with the central crease and all other elements lined up horizontally. The two-tone roof, which appears to float, gives the Grandland an elegant appearance. The sharp characteristic lines of the wheel arches run through the car and reinforce the Grandland’s rugged image.

The long wheelbase of 2,784 mm ensures increased spaciousness in the cabin and the luggage compartment. The rear seats can be folded 40:20:40, creating a load space of up to 1,641 litres. The interior of the new Grandland is dominated by a multitude of “bold & pure” design elements, combined with a warm and pleasant atmosphere.

The interior layout follows a horizontal theme, with lines running across the instrument panel to the doors, enhancing the sense of width and spaciousness, while the slightly driver-oriented 16-inch center screen and high-mounted center console create a sporty feel. Behind the wheel, a fully digital instrument panel provides key information.

Combined with the Intelli-HUD head-up display, it allows the driver to focus on the enjoyment of driving, without having to take his eyes off the road. The driver also has the option to manually or automatically activate Pure Mode. This feature reduces content on the driver information screen, head-up display and center display, ensuring even less distraction when driving at night or in the rain.

In keeping with Opel’s philosophy, the most frequently used settings, such as the air conditioning, can also be selected via physical buttons. The side vents are integrated into the door, which emphasizes the width of the instrument panel. The upper part of the instrument panel has a beautiful design and is aesthetically divided into two surfaces.

In the lower part, the “edge light”, which is based on the same technology used in the Vizor, gives a “glassy” image of color and light, which is enhanced by the peripheral lighting on the instrument panel and in the door inserts. The middle part of the instrument panel is covered in fabric and visually ends in the door, creating an attractive cockpit.

The interior also offers a particularly interesting experience, thanks to Opel’s award-winning ergonomic AGR seats. Certified by “Aktion Gesunder Rücken e. V.” (“Campaign for a Healthier Back”), introduce a new comfort feature: electric cushions, to improve lateral comfort. The seats also have a ventilation and massage function for the driver.

At the same time, rear passengers enjoy 20mm more legroom than the outgoing Grandland. In addition, the patented Intelli-Seat feature of the front seats provides better support for the lower spine, ensuring excellent comfort, even on long journeys on the Autobahn. Finally, all the fabrics inside come from 100% recycled materials.

As this is a family vehicle, a lot of emphasis was placed on the flexibility of the interior. The goal was not only to include numerous storage spaces, but also to find innovative solutions that would make life easier for customers. The pinnacle of these smart solutions is the PixelBox. With its illuminated translucent glass and fabric wrap, this element aesthetically enhances the console’s appearance while being highly functional.

The wireless smartphone charger is behind the glass so devices can be charged while stored safely. In total, the new Grandland offers over 35 lt of storage space inside, from the Pixel Box and phone holders in the front seat backs, to the large storage space under the center console.

Customers who prefer other powertrains to an all-electric option will find their heart’s desire in the new Grandland’s comprehensive range of powertrains. The new Grandland Plug-in Hybrid with an electric range of up to 85 km and the Grandland Hybrid with 48V technology offer further exciting solutions, which offer driving pleasure and at the same time reduce consumption and CO2 emissions.

And while the Grandland reduces emissions, it still offers a dynamic and comfortable driving experience. This is made possible thanks to shock absorbers with selective frequency-dependent damping technology. This unique technology creates a second hydraulic circuit in the shock chamber to mechanically adjust the damping force in relation to frequency.

The attractive package offered by Opel’s new flagship SUV is completed by an extensive range of driver support systems, such as Automatic Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Advanced Road Sign Recognition and In Crash Braking, a system that helps avoiding a secondary collision in the event of an accident.

Also available as an option is the Drive Assist 2.0 system, which integrates numerous electronic aids and combines them with semi-automatic lane change assistance and intelligent speed adjustment. If the lane in which the driver wishes to move is free, the system directs the Grandland to it with small movements of the steering wheel.

The speed adaptation function ensures that the vehicle speed is reduced when a new, lower speed limit is recognized or increased to the limit if it is higher. Drive Assist 2.0 not only uses sensors, but also ‘over-the-air’ updates from the internet. Parking and maneuvering are also made easier by the front and rear parking sensors, the reversing camera with automatic cleaning function and the Intelli-Vision 360° camera.
