And now the two of them! After the “end of an era” marked by the decision of Mr. Dimitris Papalexopoulou not to stand as a candidate for a third term, Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos and Ms Iulia Tsetis they face an unprecedented battle in its modern history BSE for election of the new President.

Confirming them newmoney info Mr. Theodoropoulos, President of Bespoke SGA, announced his candidacy in the elections to be held during this year’s General Assembly of the Association on June 19. A decision made a long time ago, but which awaited the official notification of Mr. Papalexopoulos’ intentions before the Council of the Association, last night.

The Vice-President of SEV, Spyros Theodoropoulos, announces his candidacy for the Presidency of the Association

“I announce today with pleasure and a sense of responsibility, my intention to be a candidate in the upcoming elections for the Presidency of the Association of Business and Industry. I already informed yesterday as my duty, the Board of Directors of the Association.

This decision of mine comes in continuation of my activity for 21 years as a member of the Board of Directors. of the BSE, of which the last 10 from the position of Vice President with responsibility for labor.

The successes of BSE in recent years have been many. We effectively defended the interests of our members, while as social partners we contributed significantly to the maintenance of social cohesion and the progress of the Greek economy.

It is no coincidence that for decades, SEV has been recognized as the most authoritative representative of private initiative in our country. In the last four years, moreover, the number of members of the BSE rose to unprecedented levels.

However, there are still many challenges that need to be dealt with immediately and decisively.

The energy crisis and the green transition, the continuous reduction of non-wage labor costs, the prices of raw materials, the disruption of the supply chain due to geopolitical developments, the technological development and at the same time the lack of labor force but also the defense of the mental health of the workers , are just some of the issues we are called to face, in a new, ever-changing reality.

I am committed to the role of President for which I am running, to continue on the same, steady course of strengthening entrepreneurship and business, which our Association has been following for more than a century. At the same time, with the innovative spirit that characterizes my business course to date, we will plan and implement the necessary changes that will be needed for BSE to successfully face the new challenges.

I am absolutely optimistic that in the next two years we will be able to maximize the added value for our members, to plan initiatives for the development of Greek entrepreneurship, and to make a substantial and targeted contribution to addressing the major social issues of the country”.

It is recalled that Ms. Iulia Tseti, its managing director TSETI Group of Pharmaceutical Enterprises (OFET), announced her intention to stand as the first female candidate for the presidency of the BSE at the beginning of the month during the annual Conference of the Panhellenic Exporters Association and since then it has been trying to build a profile of a dynamic contender.

In other words, everything portends one pre-election battle two dynamic and successful businessmen in their field which is certain to stir the hitherto calm waters of an Association that has traditionally sought consensus, low tones and sympathy for the sake of the common interest. Somehow, until today, the solution of fermentations was followed, which usually resulted in a candidate who gathered almost universal acceptance and finally received the ring of succession!

However, this changes from this year and in the upcoming General Assembly elections will be held for the first time, bringing in all probability the necessary polarization that usually accompanies a democratic electoral process. The question is, of course, on what basis the candidates will present their arguments. It will be a simple “battle” of persons or positions and proposals for the future of the Association and the economy will be contested in an era with great challenges ahead.

Based on the data so far, however, Mr. Theodoropoulos appears as the favorite as the oldest Vice-President of the Association, he is extremely knowledgeable about the issues and the operation of the BSE. At the same time, it is said to have the support of the “big names” of the Industry, as well as universal recognition through its long history. On the other hand, Ms. Tseti may appear as the outsider, although she is said to have gathered several new members of the Association around her.

The question of a third candidate

Also, a question that will be answered in the near future is whether there will finally be a third candidate in this electoral process, something that was floating in the “air” last night during the meeting of the Council of the Association, without, however, there being any ‘revelations’ beyond statement of Mr. Theodoropoulos to the members that he will stand as a candidate in the elections.

However, information from newmoney states that recently there was a discussion about the feasibility of a candidate from the innovation ecosystem, in the event that the election of a new President showed that it would be an open process.

In a new era

Be that as it may BSE members who spoke to newmoney they believe that this electoral battle, regardless of the result, will be the springboard for the essential “opening” of the Association to the members and adaptation to the new conditions. And these require more open procedures. Especially as in recent years with the great opening that the Association has made to other business sectors, beyond Industry, reaching today to have members from commercial companies, service companies, technology and banks as well as startups, adding in the meantime “relatives” Links, it’s overgrown. Which means that “common interest” is now a more general concept and that each business sector has different major issues to deal with. It is also now becoming more difficult to be controlled by the “old fireplaces” of Industry.

Finally, another question that arises concerns the future of the position of the President of the Executive Committee of the Association. Mr. Efthimis Vidalis, who during the days of Papalexopoulos held this position assuming important responsibilities for the operation of the Association, also announced at last night’s Council meeting that he will leave after the General Meeting. So it remains to be seen what changes the next President will bring to the current BSE management structure.
