Just 10 minutes will be required to get from Katehaki Avenue to Vouliagmenis Avenue, bypassing Ilioupoli underground.

In 2027, the Ilioupoleos Tunnel is expected to be completed, which will connect Katehaki Avenue, at the height of the “Sacketa” camp, with Vouliagmenis Avenue, probably in the area of the Ilioupoli metro station.

With the new road, it is estimated that it will take about 10 minutes for this distance, from half an hour required on average today.

The tunnel is expected to decongest both Ilioupoli and Argyroupoli, as well as Kifissou Avenue to a small extent.

The construction cost of the Iliopolis Tunnel is estimated at 450-500 million euros and the project is included in the expansions of the Attica Road. Lamda Development has undertaken the preparation of the studies and it is estimated that they will be completed and delivered to the Ministry of Infrastructure in 2023.

According to the plan, the tunnel will be 3 kilometers long with 3 lanes per traffic flow, with no exits. There will also be changes in Vouliagmenis Street, which will be turned into a highway, without traffic lights, until Elliniko. The road will be widened and uneven junctions will be created at the junctions up to Elliniko.

So, with her Ilioupoli Tunnel, Vouliagmeni Street, her Kifissou Avenue and Attiki Odos, Athens will have a traffic light-free network of central road axes that will serve both north-south and east-west traffic.
