April 23rd has been established internationally by Unesco as World Book Daydedicated to two great creators of world literature who “departed” on the same day (April 23, 1616) from life, the William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. Starting from 2016, the Greek Book Association also established April 23 as Book Day in Greece, with the central message of “read & change”.
On this day, the “Book Walk” is organized throughout Greece in public and municipal libraries, bookshops and publishing houses, with the aim not only of creating new ones, but also of mobilizing old readers, and all of them together to be led to bookshops and libraries where the book lives and breathes.
The ambition is for this celebration to be a springboard for new actions and opportunities to highlight reading, to function as a unique vehicle for learning, entertainment and personal progress, through which the much-needed cause of education and culture, which are overlooked these days, will be promoted us like never before.
