The exhibition “Chaeronea, August 2, 338 BC: A day that changed the world” was visited this afternoon by the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Mr. Ieronymos.

The temporary exhibition – which ends tomorrow – of the Museum of Cycladic Art in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, is part of the new series of archaeological exhibitions “History of People” and is presented in the Stathatos Mansion and the Neophytos Doukas Wing, under the supervision of the Scientific Directors of the Drona Museum Panagioti Iossif, professor at the Radboud University in the Netherlands, and Ioannis Fappa, Assistant Professor of Prehistoric Archeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Scientific Director of the Museum.

Mr. Fappas welcomed the Archbishop and showed him around the exhibition grounds emphasizing the importance of the battle of Chaeronea in ancient times in the transition from the classical to the Hellenistic period, an era in which the Greek culture would dominate for centuries and set the foundations of what we call the Western world.

The Archbishop thanked Mr. Fappa, asked his questions and expressed his enthusiasm for the exhibits, which approach one of the most important historical events of Greek antiquity, the Battle of Chaeronea.
