For Johnny Depp, there was always art. Before acting and before music, there was painting and drawing, as important elements of his expression and creation. In addition to being a creator, he is also a sufferer collector and owns a private collection that includes everything from Basquiat to Banksy.

His recent concerts with Jeff Beck and the great love and acceptance he received from the audience gave him the impetus to share with the world and the his paintings.

Johnny Depp’s first painting exhibition has a title Friends & Heroes and focuses on people who he knows well and they have inspired him as a personality. Each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Depp’s eyes. An illustration of how they were revealed to him. From his dear friend and iconic Rolling Stones guitarist, Keith Richards which inspired his style in his portrayal of Jack Sparrow, until bob dylan, him Al Pacino, her Elizabeth Taylor.

As noted for the works, Depp has created a multi-layered expressionistic style of his own. Neo-expressionist artists abandon any intention of imitating nature and instead seek to express their emotional experience in art centered around their feelings and inner turmoil. Neo-Expressionist art, like Depp’s art, is characterized by strong subjectivity, highly textured applications of paint and other materials, strong contrasting colors, and images that tell a story.

Working from photographic references, each image in Johnny Depp’s first collection has been stripped down to a simpler and more iconic depiction of the subject, which the artist then developed and activated with his signature free-flowing flourishes. Johnny Depp’s art straddles the line between “Pop Art” and “Street Art”. Recognizable images of pop culture people are recast in vibrant, bright colors and overlaid with the energy and spirit of Street Art. The result is a series of iconic images of media figures that have transcended the impersonal graphic simplicity of Pop Art. It’s Pop Art with a feel.

Available as a framed set of four, each artwork complements the others with their vibrant colors, striking lines and textured touches.

Speaking about his works, Mr Johnny Depp says: “I have always used art to express my feelings and reflect on those who mean the most to me, such as my family, friends and people I admire. My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself alone. Nobody should do that and limit themselves.”
