A new sculptor was “born” and his debut was very impressive. His name is Brad Pitt who, following the example of many of his colleagues, started making art as psychotherapy and fell head over heels in ceramics after his breakup with Angelina Jolie in 2017.

The Hollywood superstar has his own sculpture studio and invites his friend Leonardo DiCaprio – also a fan of ceramics to do their experiments – and sell them at a high price, as the catalog of the Sara Hildén art museum in Tampere, Finland shows. where he exhibits his work alongside works by musician Nick Cave and artist Thomas Houzago.

It is the first time that Brad Pitt has publicly exhibited his sculptures and presents a total of nine works, among which stand out a house made of silicone with gunshot marks and another house made of tree bark titled House A Go Go (2017) which is held together roughly with a movie.

In addition to these symbolic houses he presents an oversized bronze box with imprints of body parts that seem to be trying to break it and escape and the plaster sculpture Aiming At You I Saw Me But It Was Too Late This Time (2020), which depicts a combat between eight figures.

As Brad Pitt stated sculpting is an outlet and a method of reflection in which he records himself and his feelings, considering those he may have hurt and the times he was simply wrong. Art is proving to be a quiet pursuit for Pete, and the largely self-taught actor showcases his work alongside that of music superstar Nick Cave.

Also working with clay, Cave follows another form, smaller than Pete’s, glazed ceramic figurines depicting the devil’s life in 17 stations, from innocence to facing our mortality.

Nick Cave created his works between 2020-22 and aesthetically the series refers to the artist’s interest in Victorian Staffordshire Flatback figurines, of which he is a collector.

The two first-time sculptors created these works in dialogue with the considerably more experienced Housseago. The British artist who is best known as a sculptor presents a series of paintings, a medium he has begun to experiment with in recent years. They come from his large-scale Visions series, which was created outdoors and inspired by European symbolists, including the Norwegian Edvard Munch.
