A unique building built in the distant 1853 with the aim of housing the family of Grigoris Paikos, a member of the Philikis Etaireia, glorifying the greatness of neoclassical architecture, was renovated with modern craftsmanship and absolute respect for its preserved identity as an architectural monument by the Polykretis family and will now operates as a five-star hotel in Vaporia of Hermoupoli, in Syros, very close to the emblematic Church of Agios Nikolaos.

An unparalleled combination of modern luxury with elements of the past, such as the imposing staircase made of wood and marble, the fireplaces and of course the building’s inseparable connection with the art world make it a destination in itself.

The magnificence and artistic charm of the building are in the foreground, with the ceiling paintings and murals created collectively by artists active on the island during the 19th century, fully preserved by Cleopatra Tsourakis. Combining a cosmopolitan culinary temperament with a true Greek attitude, Elexis Restaurant chef Nikos Stamatis orchestrates a menu with international flavors in harmony with the Greek land and its raw materials.

In the restaurant, among other things, the visitor will enjoy Syros kopanisti, fava beans with Syrian caper jam, salad with spinach and fig marinated in the island’s wine and cool dishes such as ceviche with yuzu and coconut milk.

In hot dishes, the artichokes are refreshed with Hollandaise dressing, while the squid acquires a sweet and sour aftertaste, thanks to the chili jam and ginger. Of course there is no shortage of seafood but also carnivorous options that include Rib Eye to dry aged flap steaks and tomahawk.

The conclusion is sweet with the always welcome chocolate in its most creative version, pavlova and matcha brûlée with caramelized shiso. Masterfully structured, the wine list offers selections from the local, wider Greek but also international vineyard.
