“Career Days” of DYPA in Piraeus

Today the “Career Days” of DYPA are being held and the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended Piraeus to see this important action regarding job opportunities with a focus on the sea.

At the event held at the Stone Warehouse of the Piraeus Port Authority, more than 70 companies participate which are looking for staff for 1,000 jobs and are active in the blue economy sector (shipping, shipyards, coastal shipping, marine tourism – yachting, etc.).

The Prime Minister was informed by the Minister of Labor and Social Security Domnas Michailidou, Deputy Minister Vassilis Spanakis and DYPA Commander Spyros Protopsaltis for the initiatives undertaken by DYPA in the labor market.

THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a chance to chat with representatives of more than 70 companies who participate inon the 30th “Career Day”looking for staff for more than 1,000 jobs in the sectors of the blue economy, as well as with unemployed jobseekers and workers wishing to change jobs, who, through the “Career Days”, can come into direct contact with employers.

In his statements, the Prime Minister emphasized the decisive role played by Public Employment Service (DYPA) in the labor market, as – as he said – “unemployment in our country is now decreasing and as wages are increasing, it becomes more and more important to align the capabilities of the workforce with the real needs of the labor market”.

“Dear Governor, I want to personally congratulate the Public Employment Service, as well as the Ministry of Labour, for the very important initiatives you have undertaken in the field of active labor policies”, the Prime Minister said in a statement and emphasized:

“The “Career Days” have already been enshrined in the consciousness of businesses and employees as an extremely successful institution. It is the 30th one, which is dedicated to the blue economy. As you said, 70 companies are participating, more than 1,000 jobs are offered whether unemployed or employed who may want to change jobs, come here to talk directly to businesses in order to make the best possible choice for their working future.

As unemployment in our country is now decreasing and wages are increasing, it is becoming increasingly important to align the capabilities of the workforce with the actual needs of the labor market. In this area, the Public Employment Service plays a key rolenot only with actions such as the Career Days but also through training and retraining programs, through the DYPA apprenticeship schools, so that we can offer, mainly to our young fellow citizens, more job opportunities and above all more stable, well-paid jobs .

So, congratulations again for another very nice initiative. It will be here until the afternoon, if some of you see this report and are interested in going down to Piraeus, you really won’t waste your time.”

Protopsalti’s statement

For his part, the DYPA Commander Spyros Protopsaltis he noted: “It is a great honor for the Public Employment Service that the Prime Minister came here today for the 30th ‘Career Day’.” It is the third time, in fact, that he has visited “Career Day”. Today’s is dedicated to the blue economy.

Seventy businesses with over 1,000 jobs are looking for staff and anyone who wants to either find a job or change jobs and work in the maritime trades can come here today to talk to the businesses. “Career Days” are one of the most important tools for reducing unemployment and to solve the problem that exists in the labor market, with the difficulties in finding staff.
I want to thank once again the Prime Minister of the country for his support to the Public Employment Service, for the reform that DYPA is doing to become a real ally for businesses and for the country’s workforce. President, thank you very much.”

The Public Employment Service (DYPA) organizes today, Saturday April 27, two parallel “Career Days” in Athens and Thessaloniki, with an emphasis on the blue and digital economy respectively. After the successful live and online “Career Days” in the tourism-hospitality sector, DYPA extends the organization of thematic events, in specific sectors of the economy with many jobs, giving the opportunity to businesses to meet their needs with the staff they have appropriate qualifications and skills.

More specifically, the Athens event takes place at the Stone Warehouse of the Piraeus Port Authority, (Akti Vassiliadis, Drapetsona, 18648) from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the participation of more than 70 companies looking for staff for 1,000 jobs and active in the blue economy sector (shipping, shipyards, coastal shipping, marine tourism – yachting, etc.).

Alongside, “Career Day” is being held with the subject of the digital economy at the International Exhibition & Conference Center of Thessaloniki (Egnatia 154, 54636), within the framework of the 4th International Exhibition – Conference of Digital Technology & Innovation “BEYOND 2024”, with the participation of 40 companies with more than 500 jobs.
Citizens who come have the opportunity to talk directly, without a pre-arranged appointment, with business executives and to be informed by specialized employment advisers of the Service Unit for Medium and Large Enterprises (MEMME) about the actions and services of DYPA, while business representatives have the ability to conduct on-site initial job interviews and gather
resumes to meet the increased needs in human resources.
